Peng Pursa, Governor of Svay Rieng province, has urged all relevant parties to assist in spreading awareness about the effects and dangers of drug abuse to prevent drug use and eradicate drugs at the grassroots level for the future of our children.
Pursa made this call during the inauguration ceremony of the building and other achievements at Samaki Moni Ratan Pagoda in Bavet City on March 23, 2025.
The provincial governor noted that the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the pagoda building and its achievements not only reflects progress, faith, and deep respect for Buddhism but also demonstrates the spirit of solidarity, friendship, and support from our fellow citizens for the Royal Government’s efforts in developing the country within both the Buddhist community and the empire.
He continued that the achievements observed here, of course, did not occur by chance. This is due to the fact that our country’s situation has reaped the benefits of peace and national development across all sectors, a legacy left by our esteemed national leader, Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and is currently being maintained, safeguarded, and advanced under the wise, skilful, and energetic leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet.
The provincial governor highlighted the necessity of addressing several important issues during the ceremony, including:
1. Assist in raising awareness about the effects and dangers of drug abuse to prevent drug use and eradicate drugs at the grassroots level for the future of our children and youth.
2. Support efforts to educate, raise awareness, and promote respect for traffic laws, particularly during sermons and various alms programmes. Monks are requested to guide people in respecting traffic laws and to advise against drug use.
3. Help protect existing achievements, especially those within the monastery, to ensure their longevity.
4. Authorities and police must continue to focus more on preventing, curbing, and suppressing all types of crime, including drug-related offences, traffic violations, illegal gambling, gang activities, and local theft and robbery, to guarantee the safety of citizens at all times and in all circumstances, particularly during the upcoming Khmer New Year.
